Prosthodontists
Welcome to prosthodontists.com.au - your site to find all the information you need to know about prosthodontists and the service they provide. Prosthodontists specialise in replacing missing teeth or repairing and restoring natural teeth. Because of the specialised nature of a prosthodontist's role, a prosthodontist must have about three years experience after graduation and have completed an accredited prosthodontist education program.
A prosthodontist will provide both complicated and simple replacements and restorations after teeth removal, as well as treating facial deformities. You may need your teeth replaced or restored for a range of reasons such as if your teeth have been eroded over time due to high acid levels, from trauma, or due to a temporomandibulor jaw disorder such as TMJ Syndrome.
Other reasons for needing the care of a prosthodontist include if you have snoring and sleep disorders or if you have oral cancer. A prosthodontist will also help you if you need your teeth whitened.
Common types of devices that prosthodontists use when replacing or repairing teeth include dentures or partial dentures (prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, which can be bonded, clipped or implanted into the teeth), fixed bridges (porcelain appliances designed to replace missing teeth), crowns (caps that are made to fit over damaged or broken teeth), implants (an artificial tooth root replacement to replicate a tooth) and veneers (like a crown, but instead of covering the whole tooth it is a thin covering that is set over the front and visible part of the tooth).
When a prosthodontist is dealing with a patient who has missing teeth, they may provide implants or dentures. If the patient has teeth that need to be restored or repaired, the prosthodontist will provide the teeth with crowns or veneers.
